THE IDEA
In 2013, Davidoff’s Master Blenders ventured out into the world in search of unexplored taste stimulations for those aficionados seeking to discover new flavours and different intensities. They found what they were looking for in Nicaragua first – they took on the power of nature and turned it into an exceptional cigar that opened the doors for a whole new approach for Davidoff cigars:
The launch of Davidoff Nicaragua in 2013 was also the birth of the Black Band Collection, which was joined by the lines Escurio and Yamasá in 2015 and 2016, respectively. Since then, the Black Band Collection has been popular amongst those looking for unknown and more intense taste adventures.
Today, Davidoff celebrates its Escurio line’s ten-year anniversary by releasing a special limited-edition Gran Toro cigar with distinct Brazilian flavours that mingle with the creaminess of the Dominican tobaccos – a cigar with a rhythm all its own that takes depth and complexity one step further.
THE STORY
THE FLAVOURS OF BRAZIL HAVE NEVER DANCED LIKE THIS BEFORE
Ten years ago, to the delight of aficionados everywhere, the very first iconic, exotic Escurio cigar took to the stage.
Its stimulating sweet and spicy personality was born of the unique climate of the coastal Bahia region where the heat tangoes with the rain.
A cigar with a rhythm all its own.
Now we have revitalised that blend as only we could.
Taking aged Brazilian tobacco found nowhere else on the planet and interweaving it with the mellow notes of our signature creaminess.
A smooth samba of a cigar from start to finish.
A carnival of tastes which is a celebration of craftsmanship. Davidoff craftsmanship.
Only our Master Blenders could perfectly partner ingredients from Brazil and the Dominican Republic with a total age of 45 years and then lace them with heady Yamasá visus leaves matured in bourbon casks.
This is Brazil. And beyond. The Davidoff Escurio Limited Edition.
A Latin American street party on your palate.
BLEND AND CIGAR
The Escurio 10th Anniversary Limited Edition Gran Toro is a celebration of craftsmanship and nature, combining tobaccos from the Brazilian Bahia region and the Dominican Republic.
This rare blend showcases the region’s uniqueness, as Bahia is characterised by a humid and salty environment due to its proximity to the sea. This in addition to harsher and irregular rainfall creates tobacco that is more robust and spicy in taste. In contrast, the Dominican tobaccos add a signature smoothness and creaminess, cultivated in regions with consistent and controlled fresh water and
balanced weather.
The tobaccos have an impressive combined age of 45 years, which is owed to Davidoff’s extensive tobacco inventory. In fact, no one else has Brazilian tobaccos of this age available.
Another highlight that distinguishes the Limited Edition from the ongoing Escurio line is that Davidoff has aged one of the Dominican filler tobaccos in a bourbon cask, which imparts extra depth, complexity and sweetness and makes this cigar a true samba of taste.
Together, the tobaccos create a dynamic play of taste, which is enhanced by the bigger 56 ring gauge of the Gran Toro – this allows the Brazilian and Dominican filler tobaccos to take centre stage.
STYLISH PACKAGING DESIGN
The 12 Gran Toro cigars come in a numbered wooden box which displays the carefully varnished Escurio pattern. The frame reflects the striking colour of the Escurio line around the box, and a 10th anniversary sticker on the lid highlights the special occasion. A smooth pergamin paper that also shows the Escurio pattern covers the cigars and enhances the unboxing experience.
THE CASK AGEING PROCESS
THE BOURBON CASK
The leaves are firmly pressed inside the bourbon casks. As the temperature in the closed casks rises, the tobacco enters a fermentation process. The rise in temperature is checked regularly to prevent the tobacco from overheating.
THE AGEING
The Yamasá visus filler tobacco ages for a total of six months in the cask, during which it is flipped every two weeks through a laborintensive process. During this time, the tobacco naturally absorbs the aromas of the cask’s wood. No bourbon is applied directly to the tobacco leaves.
THE RESULT
The cask ageing noticeably refines the rich Yamasá visus tobacco. It adds complex sweetness to the overall blend which consequently balances the spiciness of the Brazilian tobaccos in the Escurio 10th Anniversary Limited Edition.
